Cy8 - G 24821 Sheet #3. The reason why we did not cancel the extra air valve by opening an air cock, as we did in the original scheme, is that we had a good deal of trouble with the air cock leaking, and from our experience with the other air cocks on the car, which are a great source of trouble, we are sure that it would never be possible to keep this absolutely tight and it would have a bad effect on the slow speed running of the engine, which would not be detected by the average chauffeur. The advantage of the scheme on 4-AX is that it can be fitted to any existing car, and we are perfectly sure that there are going to be serious complaints of difficulty in starting, we desire that approval or suggestions for improvement of this choker scheme should be sent to us as soon as possible so that it can be incorporated with our standard production. The following is a quotation from Mr. Allen's report: "These represent the average run of gasoline as commonly sold along the roadway but it is possible to obtain a higher Baume gasoline from some of the larger stations at a small increase of price. The distillation curve, however, does not apparently tell the whole story as far as satisfactory operation is concerned, because while two gasolines may have approximately the same curves, there may be a decided difference in their affect on the operation of the car, especially as far as a tendency to detonate is concerned. This has been confirmed by Mr. Caswell on 4-AX." Yours truly, ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, Inc. For M. {Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley MO/G Enc. CC Mr. Nadin Mr. Bagnall Mr. Hulley Mr. Southern Mr. Caswell | ||
