no doubt that what he is telling us must be substantially correct, and therefore thought it best to cable to you suggesting that experiments with copper tubes at Derby should be pushed forward, so that we can use them on imported cars in case either we cannot get brass tubes or we find that they are not advisable.

Mr. Caswell, who has been consulted in this matter, cannot give us much assistance, since he has not had any cars from the West under constant observation, and is unable to say whether the material caused a breakdown through the use of alkaline water.
