1153 To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}3.11.39. GEARBOXES. With regard to our decision to alter the reverse on the Myth box so that it moves forwards into engagement and therefore tends to work into mesh on either drive or over-run, we have come to the conclusion that it will be essential to maintain the present position in the gate for the reverse notch. This means a simple reversing lever in the box by the position of which fulcrum we can reduce the travel of the gear lever. The reversing mechanism can be as per the attached rough sketch because it is very seldom used and never has any load on it. We think that while the casting is being altered for the 5.6 litre left-hand box it is worth investigating whether the proposed new Myth type reverse could be incorporated in spite of the servo. We are sure to get complaints of the strength of the present reverse selector spring and LA.{L. A. Archer} has already had cases of reverse jumping out in spite of it.
