-2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/KT.24.4.33. (8) There is no scheme of wing stays suitable for the flared front wings. (9) There is no available space for the Bosch direction indicator time switch. We have not been able to fit this up on 2.B.IV. (10) On the first Bentley car we found it necessary to put pads of felt all round the scuttle to support the rear end of the overhanging bonnet. On the second car we have fixed on a continuous strip of felt all round the scuttle; we think this is a necessary measure. (11) The instrument board brackets are inadequate, it is necessary to provide fixings from either end of the board to the bodyside; this is especially necessary on the offside to cater for the weight of the speedometer and rev. counter patch. (12) The spare wheel cover depends, for its rattle free fitting, on an inflated tyre; when a punctured tyre is carried it rattles very badly. This cover was made to suit a Dunlop 5.50" x 18" tyre; since then we have decided to use India tyres which are very slightly larger than Dunlops although of the same advertised size; it is not possible to carry an India tyre as spare. We think the covers should be made to suit the largest size of 5.50 x 18" tyre and should have ample clearance round this; if there is not ample clearance it becomes almost impossible to remove the spare wheel especially when discs are fitted. (13) The ace wheel discs foul the nuts on the periphery of the rear drums before the wheel is pulled up tight on to the hub cone. These require altering immediately. (14) The coachbuilders always fit a small bracket on either side to fix the bottom of the scuttle to the chassis frame; this appears to us to be a necessary fitting owing to the bottom of the scuttle 'spreading' and we think we should make provision for this; the coach-builders brackets used for this job are invariably made of rusty angle iron. This applies to all cars. (15) The mud lips on the rear wings are slightly too large; it is not possible to push to road wheels squarely on to the hub; the tyre fouls the mud lip at the front end.
