Mr. Olley points out in his OYL/G3.6.21. that the Side Filler arrangement fitted to 4.EX Car has been superceded by another design. The reason they give for this is the difficulty of filling the tank for the last three or four gallons, owing to the vent pipe not being large enough. We agree that the arrangement fitted to 4.EX Car fails in this respect and owing to the fact that the first 14 gallons of petrol can be poured into the tank at a very fast rate, it is practically certain that in filling the tank with a pump, most of the last four gallons of petrol would be spilt on the floor. We attach to Mr. Royce's copy of this report a photostat print of the filler and tank which Springfield recommend. Springfield have the advantage that in practically all cases they supply customers with complete cars, they can therefore, control the amount of overhang on the body at the back and the type of luggage carrier which is fitted. They claim that the new tank fulfills their requirements. Our criticism, from the print, is that the filler demands that the luggage grid shall be a very long way back. From what I remember, however, I believe that the type of luggage grid used by Springfield is jointed a long way back from the frame contd. | ||
