To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} copy to CJ " " BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} [Handwritten Annotations in top right] Royce 6EX Body Mats R9/G4/5/20. D 6 MAY 1920 6EX [Handwritten Annotations in top left/center] ORIGINAL 1" HIGHER RAD & BONNET. TO HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} - "MANY THANKS" RECEIVED [Stamped] X.3923. RE CAR FOR WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town. With reference to the car for my use, I have little doubt that you will make this so that its running will be faultless, and it will be equipped with everything possible, so that I shall be acquainted with the improved parts. As regards modification to the body, it seems diffi to get away from the shape and scheme of 1 EX. It seems to need, however, that the windscreen shall be brought nearer the steering wheel, and that there shall be a little more room between the steering wheel and the seat. Apparently this could best be provided by shortening the steering column, as the reach to the pedals seems quite long enough as it is at present, at any rate for anyone smaller than a tall man. The new chassis, however, will be 1" higher in the bonnet, and therefore will permit of some slight modification in the scuttle, but I cannot see that the scuttle on 1 EX. could be much improved, unless there was some improvement in pedals, or side steering levers, as will be the case in the "Buzzard". Many thanks for your kind attention to the matter. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Signature] | ||
