Contd:- The reason we bolted up the friction clutch solid was because it gave trouble by slipping, the reason it slipped was because the backing plate for the springs was not stiff enough. We also thought, when we did away with the automatic hold on coil, the clutch would be unnecessary as we had the impression that the main reason for the clutch was so as to avoid the car being set in motion if the switch was accidentally pressed.
