1097 Vauxhall Motors Ltd TELEPHONE NUMBER 2600 LUTON LUTON. BEDS. TELEGRAMS CARVAUX, TELEX, LUTON WHEN REPLYING PLEASE QUOTE OUR REF: 289/AT/IF YOUR REF: 7th December, 1939. W.A. Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Robotham, Thank you for your letter on transmissions. Regarding wide gaps. Certainly we believe in them. However, you get from this practice no more than you deserve. You cannot show an increase in economy if some other factor is effectively restricting improvement. Spark plug position and type may be such as to refuse to react to treatment. Carburettor mixture bias may be such as to hold you down to very narrow limits. So it goes. To be able to use wide gaps effectively is a sign of good health !! With the present W.D. Solex on our Bedford, wide gaps are useless. Even our vacuum advance is useless and we leave it disconnected. We have forced a redesign on Solex and shortly will be in "good health" again and able to show 18% increase in road mileage. Does that answer your query - or is your tongue still in your cheek? Affectionately, Alex Taub. | ||
