Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. LID{A. J. Lidsey} CONFIDENTIAL Dear Sirs, re OIL VISCOSITY In reply to your letter of the 25th ult., we regret that we are unable to give you figures on all the oils you mention, but have certain information which we send you herewith. It would, of course, be possible for us to extrapolate the information from the higher temperature viscosity ranges, but we are extremely distrustful of this method, as at the temperatures you mention all oils depart to a greater or lesser degree from the straight line on the logarithmic plot. We are quite willing to carry out tests on the other oils to get the information you require, but you will understand that this might, in certain circumstances, put us in rather a difficult position and such figures could only be given to you in strict confidence and without prejudice. Yours faithfully, for SHELL-MEX & B.P. LTD. L.G. Callingham K.c.f. Manager - Technical & Research Dept.
