X.9770 To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to HB.{C. E. Harcombe} RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} PN.{Mr Northey} S E C R E T. R2/M22.3.24. E.A.C. 5. X.9770 FRAME. Is this not exactly like EAC.1. If so it could be on the floor. (This EAC.1. frame looks better than 40/50). BRAKES. Like standard 40/50 on back axle; spring etc. like EAC.1. FRONT AXLE. Exactly like present but improved for balloon tyres and pivots near centre, and possibly with Rudge Whitworth new wire wheels. FRONT SPRINGS. These are definitely longer and are to be anchored at back - no radius rods. FRAME. The only consideration - Is the front end stiff enough to carry the engine without vibrations. SUSPENSION OF ENGINE & GEARBOX. Stiff back feet, single point forward, side dampers, and also possibly friction suspension or damping behind gearbox to cross member. Consider whether we can lower frame. Don't forget cross members belonging to the body. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
