(18) Oil Leaks from the Gearbox. Cured by fitting baffle in the change speed tower.

(19) Valve Springs Breaking. So far the double valve springs appear to have cured this trouble.

(20) Spongy Brake System. This has been eliminated by redesigning the adjustment and reverting it to the Phantom scheme.

(21) Clutch Slipping. This was due to oil leaking through the rear main bearing and should be cured now that this trouble has been eliminated.

(22) Clutch Refusing to Stop. Pedals with increased travel designed and fitted.

(23) Engine Roughness. Flexibility of mounting increased.

--------------------
The following is a list of faults in which at present SpectreCodename for Phantom III is worse than Phantom II.
--------------------

We are working on these faults but cannot yet say that we have tried a car in which they are eliminated, although in many cases a cure is mentioned as being in the process of being tried.

(1) Vapour lock.

On the car in France the filter has been modified and an outside air intake to the carburetter is fitted. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} reports that this definitely overcomes vapour lock. No designs are available at present for these modifications.

(2) Erratic Slow Running, particularly when the engine is Hot.

Erratic slow running is much more noticeable on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III on the Continent in hot weather than here, in fact at 30°C.Ats. this feature becomes exceedingly bad. Work is being carried out to make the best of the existing carburetter arrangement but we shall certainly get criticism unless we succeed in making a big improvement. As a fundamental cure induction pipes have been put in hand experimentally for two downdraught carburetters the system being the same as that which has proved successful on the 20/25.

(3) Piston Knocks & Overoiling.

We have not yet got a satisfactory piston & liner for this car. Experiments are proceeding however with a view to overcoming the trouble. A design of a semi-split piston exactly similar to the one which has been so successful on the Phantom has been issued with a view to going back to something
