4766 To PN.{Mr Northey} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG25.8.26. ENGINE COOLING ON PHANTOM. X8250 X766 With reference to PN{Mr Northey}1/IN24.8.26. It has been noticeable that we have heard of less complaints from over-heating of water this summer. We always anticipate, as soon as the hot weather arrives, we shall have complaints of boiling. We are satisfied that with the Phantom we are very much better off than we were with the Silver Ghost in this respect, but as you say, we do not know how to make a car which will not boil under certain conditions. As regards steam or evaporative cooling. We have carried out experiments in connection with this. All the information of the advantages and disadvantages of this method of cooling are given in our Experimental Technical Information File under 'COOLING'. In the same file also, we describe the advantages of cooling under pressure. One of our experimental cars has been running about fitted with this system about 12 months. One of the great advantages of it is that it can be applied to existing cars very easily and without much expense. This system will increase the cooling efficiency by 13%, whereas with the steam or evaporative cooling, the increase will only be 6½%. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
