TELEPHONE: STAINES 1122 TELEGRAMS: LAGONDA STAINES 1104. LAGONDA WORKS STAINES MIDDLESEX SET/KKL. 14th January, 1938. Dear R.W., As promised, I enclose you some information about our engine. The weight we now find for the unit complete with starter, dynamo, carburetters, clutch, exhaust manifolds, engine bearer arms, as it drops in the car, is 835 lbs. This surprised us a little, as the first 12-cylinder engine we made weighed 718 lbs. The growth is explained a little by cast iron exhaust manifolds, 2 carburetters instead of one, and aluminium instead of magnesium, but the rest must be middle-aged spread. The top gear ratio is 4.4, but we are dropping it on larger bodied cars to 4.7, the tyres are 18" x 6.5". The drawing number you may recognise: the chaps said it made them feel like home. Looking forward to seeing you here sometime. Tsu. W.A. Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. | ||
