Contd. -4- EFCl/T14.10.24. TR.{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}6. This coil was also received at the same time as TR.{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}4 above, and satisfactorily underwent the production test. On 19.6.24, it was sent to R.{Sir Henry Royce} for 6-EX. In a note to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} we are enquiring as to its location. In order to confirm the original failure of coils in Elo cases, a comparison was made between the short previous standard 40/50 stabalite encased coil and one of the original short coils inElo moulded case. The conditions of the test were exactly as described in WA.{Mr Wallis}60 for the tests on TR.{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}1 and present standard coils, and the report on this comparison is contained in my assistant's report WA.{Mr Wallis}61 herewith, from which it will be seen that there was a definite inferiority of the Elo encased coil with the short stabalite encased coil. this was of the nature of a check experiment. It is not our intention in this report to push the standardisation of this redmenol encased coil, but for the present to continue running all the six coils if possible under ordinary conditions on the experimental chassis. It may also be considered desirable that yet more coils of this type should be made and run on every experimental chassis. It is not thought, however, that anything more would be gained by further thrashing tests to those already done. It has been our intention on the other hand to state the facts of the case to date, so that the whole question may now be reviewed and a decision arrived at as to what further line to take. On the running of these coils on chassis Mr. Hives and his staff are satisfied that these six, at any rate, have behaved absolutely reliably under all conditions. EFC. Summary of total mileages.
