To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Bentley Engine Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E11.9.36 Copy to E.Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}BY. Bearings. I am sorry to see from the daily report of the 8th that a big end bearing has collapsed after 10,786 miles. This seems to be a repetition of the trouble experienced with B-56-BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} I gather from the specification you sent me the other day of 6-B-IV that the engine on this car has all the recommended modifications and improvements referred to in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW.19.5.36 for overcoming this trouble. I see the report says that the main bearings were worn and one wonders whether this caused a shortage of oil to the big ends despite the larger oil pump etc. I shall be interested to hear further after you have had an opportunity of investigating the matter.
