49946 Expl: Dept: Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Rd., Derby. England. 6th. Feb. 1924. Dear Lauro, Thanks for your letter from Paris. We are not very surprised if the car does not exceed 75 m.p.h. on a level road. Wherever possible, we should like to know whether there is any wind following or a headwind, also whether it is down hill. We do not think for one minute that you will be able to improve the speed by any alteration to the carburetter as long as the air valve is working freely. We should certainly recommend you to try with the special K.L.G. plugs fitted because you may get slight pre-ignition at high speed full throttle which would be very difficult to detect - so I should certainly recommend that you make a test. As regards the brakes. We are sending to you today 2 levers. These are the vertical levers fitted in the side channel which operate the servo. One of these will give an increase of 10% rear braking - the other an increase of 20%. We recommend that you fit the 10% one first and see how much better it is - if it is not sufficient, try the other one. Yours faithfully, E Hives We can only send the 10% lever tonight. the other will follow tomorrow | ||
