contd :- -8- SUMMARY. PEDESTAL PISTONS. Two of these pistons failed during a high speed endurance test; in both cases the skirt broke away from the crown. The gudgeon pin fixing is more satisfactory than standard. The piston can be a good fit when cold and at the same time be quite free under high temperature conditions, due to greater flexibility. PISTON KNOCKS. The trouble has been considerably reduced by employ- ing thicker cylinder skirts as indicated in diagram 2. We have been unable to measure any deflection of the skirts and the knock is thought to be due to resonance of these skirts. Further information will be available after the tests of the several sets which are being prepared for cars. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.C.Lovesey. | ||
