EXPERIMENTAL MEMORANDUM

Copy of letter from Messrs. Rolls-Royce, dated 21st Jan. 1926, re visit of Mr. Halliday to Derby, and of our reply thereto, are forwarded herewith for your information.
(QUOTATION BEGINS)

With reference to your letter Ref. 25/W.12/AE of the 19th instant, and our telephone conversation of the same date, we confirm having booked a room for Mr. Halliday at the Midland Hotel, Derby, for the nights of the 26th and 27th instant.

We are awaiting your further news as to the arrangements for conveying your No. 22 Engine to Derby. We understand it is proposed to bring this on an ordinary lorry and we would suggest that you give us ample notice of the exact time of arrival, in order that we may make the necessary arrangements for unloading.

We trust your representative may be favourably impressed by the running of the "Condor" engine on the test bed, and that he will find the engine suitable for the purpose you have in mind.

With reference to your suggestions as to the fitting of this engine into the "Vixen" machine, we should be pleased to discuss this question when your representative is at Derby.
(QUOTATION ENDS)

A copy of this letter has been sent to D.T.D. with a covering letter, copy of which is attached. From this it will be seen that we have suggested to D.T.D. that he should arrange for a representative of the A.I.D. to be present during Mr. Halliday's visit.

With regard to the transport of the engine. We understand from your Mr. Howard that it is proposed to send this by road, and in this connection we would suggest that you take advantage of the special vehicle that we had built for the transport of "Condor" engines, which has just returned from the R.A.E. We could send this vehicle down to you at any time you wish.
