To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} 13 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}6/AP.4.8.37 MARLES STEERING. With reference to the attached suggestion from H.A. Wallis, of fitting springs to the roller follower of the steering gear for maintaining the preload on the bearings of the roller. Unfortunately, this could not be used as the bearings in question are the weak link in the steering gear and it is essential that the inner races should be rigidly backed up by accurate faces on the rockershaft. We do not have trouble with slack developing in these bearings now that they are accurately made. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} | ||
