Bakelite Co's XM1000 moulding powder.

Further to our report WE14/4-4-30 last paragraph, we have now conducted a series of "tracking" tests in the laboratory on moulded samples of the above material comparing it with ordinary bakelite which we know carbonizes very rapidly under the action of H.T. sparks of sufficient heat intensity.

The tests consisted of:-

(1) Allowing H.T. sparks generated by a std ignition coil to pass over the surface a distance of .520" between two electrodes this being the maximum distance consistent with spark regularity.

(2) Similarly passing H.T. sparks generated by a magneto (inductor type) over a surface distance of .400"

In case (1) the voltage across the coil primary was varied and in (2) the speed of the magneto.
