Nitralloy Pump Spindles
-----------------------

With respect to your note Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tmn6/Lw27.1.30, we are instructing the necessary spindles both for the 'F' and 'H' engine to be produced in the above material as requested by you.

In view however, of the lack of success with the tinning method for preventing the penetration of the nitrogen where it is not required, we should like to have these spindles produced as follows:-

(1) The parts should be machined to within .040" of finished size and should then be given the stress releasing treatment as previously specified.

(2) The parts in question should then be completely finished.

(3) As prevention against hardening were the parts are required to be soft, we should adopt the following method:- A very thick paste must be made of Sodium Silicate with aluminium powder. This paste should be liberally applied to all parts which are not required to be hard.

Will RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} kindly note the foregoing alterations to the usual procedure with regard to Nitrogen hardening.
