1300 650 January 24th.1938 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}5/AP. Messrs. Vandervell Products Ltd., Western Avenue, Park Royal, LONDON W.3. For the attention of G.A.Vandervell Esq. Dear Sirs, Re Your FL/DS. We thank you for your letter of 21st.inst. In connection with your sketch SK.50, we agree that this is clearly the better way to apply your split bearings for production use, but we do not understand why our proposed steel sleeve is not suitable for trying Clevite experimentally. We would mention that at the present stage we are not prepared to go to the expense of making special stub axles. We are not clear as to why you suggest that we should use your washer No.840.B. Our existing washer is a loose one in phosphor lead bronze. As far as we can see, your washer differ only in the material and thickness, so that it would again necessitate special parts for trial. If you consider that your material for the washer would be better than ours, we would be glad to try them but would require 6 washers. Will you please let us know whether you still consider the use of a separate steel sleeve to be unsuitable for experimental trial of your bushes. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
