Your ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/AH. 1st July 1938. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs: For the attention of Mr. Steadman. Referring to your letter of the 29th ult. We have investigated this matter, and we can now report as follows - Your Order No. 6451 Our Inspection report is as follows - "Thermometer sticks due to foreign matter in pivots". We cannot understand the foreign matter in the pivots, and the writer can only assume that owing to the slow production of these instruments, some of the movements were left on the benches rather longer than usual, and this caused the trouble. Your Order No. 6459 Our Inspection report is as follows - "Thermometer functioning OK, Oil Gauge, slight full scale stick and not returning properly to zero, caused by slight roughness of rack and pinion teeth." We had a little trouble with roughness in the rack and pinion meshing but this has now been eliminated. We trust the above remarks give you the information required. Assuring you of our best attention. Yours faithfully FOR S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. [Signature] To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm. | ||
