(MANAGING) W.A. ROSS. YOUR REF. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.1/AD. OUR REF. XMR AD/EMR. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited. DERBY. WST December 3rd 1931. Dear Sirs, In reply to your letter of the 30th ult, we beg to advise you that we are forwarding under separate cover a type of polarised moving iron Ammeter that our American Corporation make for your subsidiary Company on the other side. We regret to find that the glass of this instrument is cracked, but we are forwarding it in that condition as, unfortunately we have not another glass in stock in perfect shape. We do not think this slight defect will make any difference to your decision, though it naturally mars the appearance of the instrument. We shall be pleased to hear in what sort of quantities you will be prepared to order these so that we can look into the question of costs, but we feel confident that we can give you a price that will prove acceptable considering the high grade of instrument we are putting forward. We are pleased to advise you that we are moving into new premises in the course of a few days as we have completed Works in this Country for the manufacture of our instruments. In due course you will receive an official announcement to this effect, and whilst we shall not be able to immediately claim 100% British manufacture, we shall gradually work to that end as soon as we can get our new manufacturing departments organised efficiently. We believe the sample instrument we are forwarding you is about the colour you require to match your other instruments, and we trust you will be pleased with its appearance, and that it may prove acceptable for your work as designed.
