To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} - 2 - 5/8/33 (4) GEAR LEVER KNOB I have cured the rattle from this by fitting a pad of rubber on the top of the rod, but the design is very bad and will never remain quiet for any length of period. I have had another look at it, but it is hopeless at present. The chief thing is to get at the cause of the excessive vibration which is being transmitted to the change speed lever. (5) SUSPENSION We appreciate your remarks and will takle this job as soon as we have settled the petrol question. (6) PLUGS We are running with three K.L.G. plugs, so far we have not had any inkling of what you say takes place. We will keep a sharp look out for same. (7) BRAKE THUMPS I am sorry but I had lost all interest in the swinging arm as there has been so much controversy. I still maintain that the servo is at fault, too small, and does not retain its effeciency. We can cure brake thumps any moment when the design people will give us what we want. (8) PETROL TANK No the petrol tank is not satisfactory for filling if you are in a hurry. The last six gallons has to be slowed down or the tank overflows. No it is not free from spilling trouble. We have got the original Perigrine tank with no modifications fitted. (9) We will let you have a sketch of our pipe lines, but as stated elsewhere, to-day we are hopelessly beaten by the heat of the petrol pump. We enclose a sketch of two failures reported. G.W.H. | ||
