C O P Y. 29, Mansell Road, Greenford, MIDDLESEX. 25th July, 1935. To Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., 15, Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, London, W.1. Dear Sir, Further to my telephone conversation of the 24th inst. I herewith enclose this Ignition System for your examination and approval. We understand that you wish to send this to your Works at Derby. We therefore wish to add that this is a Sparking Plug, but it alters and simplifies all Ignition on Aeroplane Engines. It effects Engines, "not Plugs". Here are two designs for special Plugs. These Plugs could be made, sealed and specially adapted for your Engines only. The system does away with the use of two sets of Plugs, two magnetos and all joints and controls, and is more reliable in this way that in the event of failure each cylinder is responsible for its own action, and three or four cylinders could cease working, and the Engine still carry on successfully. The left hand side plug requires a Distributor running at half Engine Speed in the primary circuit, but the right hand side one requires no Distributor, the current being supplied by Auto Transformer and slip ring contacts. We shall be pleased to go into fine mechanical details if you are interested. Failing this please return Drawings and Specification undamaged. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} W. HEWITSON. To Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., 15, Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, London, W.1. | ||
