This axle had developed noise on forward and over-run. Upon dismantling the pinion teeth was found in a bad condition. The cage of the thrust race was broken and had worn considerably on the outer edge. The scoring of the pinion teeth, we presume, was caused by the metal from the cage. There was no nip left on this bearing as the packing washer had worn. The bearing looks as if it had worn, but we should like this confirming. We are sending you the pinion, ball race and thrust washer belonging to this axle. Will you hand same to Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} after investigation, as the rest of the axle is being returned to the repair department. We are also sending a bearing taken out of B.201 GF which is badly pitted. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
