RECEIVED 26 FEB 1929 X 3757? AO OY3- H February 11th, 1929. Mr. R.W.H. Bailey, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. cc - Mr. Hives London File Dear Mr. Bailey: FUEL FEED - SECTION 7140 Further to OY11 of February 5th the work on "boosters" is developing to the stage where we appear to get approximately twice the vacuum at 500 R.P.M. full throttle that we get without the booster. We can now feed at full throttle speeds down to 500 R.P.M. and nearly balance the engine demand at speeds up to 1250 R.P.M. full throttle. In addition Stewart Warner are now offering us a vacuum tank which has a new type of double acting air-admission valve. Thus after breaking the vacuum with the ordinary small conical-seat valve, a large diaphragm-valve is opened which lets air rush into the tank freely. The result according to their diagrams is that although the tank operates at the same vacua as the ordinary tank, it operates nearly 60% faster. These two devices promise to give us satisfactory factory fuel feed without the aid of any mechanism driven by the engine. We shall be glad to send samples if you are interested. I attach chart SK-287 which gives our preliminary data on various types of booster. Very truly yours, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. Maurice Olley | ||
