Attention of Mr. C. Ward.

Dear Sirs,

RE LORRY BODY ON CHASSIS 1-B-50.

The Expl. Dept. wish to fit a lorry body to the chassis of 1-B-50. At first it was thought that we might be able to utilise one of you stock line of ambulance bodies but now we see that such a body would not be suitable as a demountable canvas top is called for in view of the desire to carry bodies on odd occasions.
On PL.145 herewith we have set out what we would propose. You will notice that we have got a floor just clearing the rear upsweep of the frame. When carrying a body the wheelarches of that body are made to coincide with those of the lorry, hence only small timbers are required to raise the body to the required height. Suitable fixings should be provided for the attachment of these.
Since the chassis frame is not altogether ideal for taking a body with so large an overhang it will be necessary to truss the section between the floor and the frame aft of the axle as shewn. Likewise the side of the body will have to be used as a beam with iron girder members as indicated. This rather cuts across the suggestion once made that the side might be made to hinge down.
It has also been suggested that a tipping gear might be incorporated and we would welcome your suggestions on this matter.
Our first interest is to receive from you an estimated cost and weight for the body as drawn and we would be glad to receive this information as soon as possible. In the meantime we suggest that you commence on the full size drawing as an overlay on that of 1-B-50.

Yours faithfully,

H.I.F.Evernden.
