C.XI. UNIT.

We have now completed sufficient running on these pistons to be satisfied that they will not break. We therefore wish to slightly modify the dimensions of these pistons to see if we can improve the bedding without reproducing the failure which occurred on Hancock's car.

We have asked Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to give us his views on alterations required to improve the bedding, and we attach his recommendations.

Will you please produce a set of pistons for C.XI unit incorporating these modification. Drg. Ex.11480A.

The modifications shown in ink on the attached drawing are where the new pistons differ from those we have just run on C.XI.
