X.3950 RE REAR ROAD SPRINGS WITH PARABOLIC LEAF ENDS. X.4056 X.2628B

With reference to the rear road springs of the pre-war type, especially those with solid eyes, in which there is a general tendency for the 3rd. plate from the bottom to move inwards towards the chassis at the rear end, and outwards at the front end, the forces of torsion and translation appear to be a sufficient explanation of this phenomenon, as discussed with you, and it appears that we shall have to expect this result so long as the clips are in their present position. We therefore agree that it is desirable to add another pair of clips to each spring. These clips to be so disposed that they are fixed to roughly the fourth plate from the top, while the present clips are fixed to the third plate from the bottom. If found desirable, it would appear to be quite possible to fit this additional clip to existing springs. We understand that you will set out each spring and position the clips, taking into account the necessity of clearing the rear step iron.

In the case of rear springs with rolled eyes at the front, the position of the clips appears to be the 3rd. plate from the top and the 4th. plate from the bottom.
