We are having a rather interesting experience on the car engine connecting rod bearings. We find that if we try and push Phantom II engine above 3250 revs. we are liable to run a connecting rod bearings. We have had several go. The arrangement of oiling on the Phantom II is the latest scheme except that it only has one hole in the crank journal. This means, of course, that it is an intermittent feed except that the crankshaft is connected end for end. On the 25 HP. engine we have flogged that engine more than any other and we have never had any trouble with connecting rods. On this engine there is a continuous groove on three of the bearings. We are carrying out further investigations on this point but we thought that you would be interested in these results, because until we know more about it we do not want to alter the 25 HP. arrangement because it is giving absolute satisfaction.
