re Bensport.

The design instructions issued for Bensport are now sufficient to enable the Drawing Office to go ahead and instruct an engine complete with carburetter, blower, and induction pipes for bench testing.

We have carried out some preliminary running with a Peregrine Engine fitted with a temporary blower and drive.

This blower is of smaller capacity than we shall finally use, and hence does not reach the ultimate boost required. Nevertheless we have done sufficient to show that the Peregrine cylinder head joint, cylinder studs and exhaust valves are all inadequate to withstand the increased output demanded, and that a period of development work lies ahead of us before these troubles will be surmounted.

We have made alterations within the limits of the present design to meet these difficulties, but we are confident that these do not go far enough and we are, therefore, putting further proposals to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints}

Engine
The design sections outstanding for Bensport are as follows:

Exhaust System. - In hand.
Engine Controls. - Nearly ready to issue.
Fan & Mounting.
Breather
Torque Reaction Dampers. - Scheme practically completed.
Ignition Wire Fittings. - Well in hand.
Dynamo drive to suit CAV. or Lucas machine. - In hand.
Pressure Oil Filter. - In hand.
Tachometer Drive. - Nearly ready.
Engine Suspension. - Since issuing this requires some modification, to H's request.

It is expected that the design for the items mentioned above will be completed by the end of October, and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} anticipates that he will have issued all detail work on the Bensport chassis by the end of December.
