To EFC. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} X4079a RL/M16.11.22. X.4079 - GOSHAWK COIL. I have not yet had an advice of a good coil for the Goshawk which is here. I think you ought to realise that we are asking for a very large number of sparks in an engine of fairly high compression, in which the sparking plugs are set rather wide so as to be favourable for slow running with a very light load. Since you tell us of the weakening effect of the hand held on the coil we understood this was inductive and not direct leakage effect. If this is so the presence of the L.T. wires are bad, and we are going to some trouble to remove them. Kindly wire to instruct us on this point as the design of the improved coil is influenced by it.
