WATFORD MAGNETIC SPEEDOMETER.

Answering your PNL/WT25.11.31. This instrument was fitted to 18-GIV but unfortunately Mr.Hancock reported trouble due to the trip drive shearing which has had to be replaced. In the meantime a standard A.T. has been fitted to the car until such times as we receive from Messrs.North a replacement instrument. This is the only Watford speedometer we have had for test.

Regarding speedometers; you will no doubt have heard that we are negotiating with Messrs.Smiths in respect of them providing us with all our instruments on the 20/25 car as they control the A.T. speedometer Co. we should, of course, have to fit the A.T. speedometer to fall in line with our proposal. This would not apply to the 40/50 car so tests on the Watford speedometer will be continued having regard to the possibility of fitting these to this car.

We are not satisfied that this instrument is as good as the A.T. mechanically in view of the failure we had on 18-GIV and we have taken up the matter strongly with the makers with a view to getting certain improvements done to the instrument.
