Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hys/L51213 Sheet. 2 fit on cars. Two pivots of similar section were tested by me on the reversal test rig, one on June 14th and the other on August 14th. In the reports on these tests I recommended that the root of the stub should be thickened up and that the U section should be made lighter, but the pivot has evidently been standardised without this being done. The first pivot in the list already given was broken when fitted with an ordinary wood wheel but the last three were broken when fitted with Dunlop wire wheels, which is with the centre line of the tyre nearer to the pivot pin. I understand that instructions have now been issued to reduce the bore of the hole in the stub axle. As soon as I can get hold of a pair of pivots so machined I will test them. | ||
