- 6 - We are of the opinion that the cutout could be dispensed with. It is not allowed in England or France and quietness of exhaust on the Continent is becoming more enforced. The rear anchorage of the silencer lost one of the spring supports during the last run. These supports depend entirely upon the tightness of the nut. They should be locked by some method. The sliding joint in the intermediate silencer has apparently cured the cracking of the end covers. The manifold and joints have given no trouble. STEERING LEC.3583.LOP.FB.239. The steering has been selective, stable, and free from wobbles. It was during the first part of the mileage on the heavy side for shunting etc. It has become ligher with use and with the cross steering tube load dropping from 25 inch pounds to 20 inch pounds. We should say that under these conditions, this steering is more reliable than with the 1° pivot lean axle GB.S2. Stoering box filled with Mobiloil EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} No replenishment has been necessary. There has been no sign of the steering becoming heavy during the mileage. RADIATOR LOP.EB.1089.LEC.3613-3470. Thermostat by Packless Gland Co. The radiator is effecient but the thermostat has not had sufficient poundage to keep the radiator shutters full open against the wind at speeds of 80 M.P.H. and above. A report has been sent previously and attention is being given to correct this fault. The radiator stay rod, broke where it is reduced by the use of a .250 dia. thread for the knuckle joint. We fitted .312 studs replacing the .250 and no fracture has taken place. BONNET LEC.3615 The rubber support on the edge of the dashboard is not satisfactory. The continual rubbing of the bonnet splits the rubber at the corners. It would appear that a thicker rubber is necessary. The bonnet and radiator has rode very steady when travelling over rough roads. | ||
