Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/MA.5.12.34. HEADLAMPS FOR R.R. & BENTLEY CHASSIS. Referring to your Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}8/KW.1.12.34., we have now a suitable chassis available and these headlamps are being fitted as soon as possible for test. We agree that the matter is very urgent and we ourselves are anxious to adopt this scheme if it is preferable. The lamps are approximately 2 lbs lighter than the standard. We have tried these new lamps in the experimental yard on a rig and the focal light on the main beam is enormous. Regarding the question of the dipped beam this will have to be tried out on the road before any opinion can be given. Fog Lamps. Referring to your Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}7/KW.1.12.34., Lucas's have not yet produced this clip on front glass and judging by their usual haste in these matters it will be some time before the same is available. We have definitely stated that in our opinion as reported under cover of our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/MA. 16.11.34., that the German Currus lamp made by Currus Ltd., of Great Portland Street, gives the best effect in fog. We recommend therefore that you obtain one or two of these lamps and try them out on your own cars in London in order to gain further experience with these lamps. Obviously we cannot buy a German lamp so we have approached Messrs.Lucas asking them to produce for us a lamp on the Currus lines or otherwise modify their FT.37 lamp to give better results. Mr.Neill of Messrs.Lucas has this matter in hand but again we think it will be some time before such a lamp is available for trial. Our feeling at Derby is that bi-focal lamps of the new type which we are trying out experimentally and another fog lamp design for fog lamp work only would be the ultimate scheme to give the best road results. Regarding the "Nebulite" fog filter which has been advertised so much. We are obtaining a headlamp glass suitable for the P.100 headlamp in order to try out this filter.
