R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/158/13. To Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} from Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} (crossed out) Copy to Hives Ck.{Mr Clark} X.3865 Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}18/W21219. X.3865 RE FAILURE OF THERMOMETER TUBE. I send you herewith copy of EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/F181119 relating to this matter which we discussed a few days ago. I think it is clear that the tubes were broken by somebody endeavouring to take out the bulb by operating the nickelplated nut instead of the bronze nut. I am afraid this is very likely to happen with this design. Will you see what can be done to obviate this risk.- perhaps the bronze nut could be made with cylindrical extension obscuring the hexagon flats on the nickel plated nut, or alternatively we might turn off the flats on the nickel nut. Mr. Hives will try if it is possible to strain the tube by undoing the bronze nut. Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} 1 enc. | ||
