Worm Axle (Contd) (10)
111th Meeting
17th Jan 12.
Mr Wormald informed the Committee that the worm axl was at present waiting for the chassis, and the delay with the chassis had been caused by the Drawing Office. He had prepared the Hindley worm and wheel for fitting into the worm axle when required.
Mr Platford informed the Committee that he was going to make some tests on the road with the worm axle to discover what rise in temperature took place under average road conditions.
With reference to the Daimler Worm axle, the Committee agreed that Mr Platford should endeavour to increase the power of the Daimler, if possible until the h.p. put through the axle approximated to our own h.p. and that he should then make some tests with th Daimler on the dynamometer.
Mr Barrington submitted some drawings and notes from Mr Whitehead concerning worm gearing design.
The Committee agreed that this matter should be handed to Mr Bailey, and he would go through the points submitted and report to the Committee.
