contd :- -3- on either of these silencers. The addition of this gives no extra silence and tends to keep the exhaust gases hot at points where it is necessary to cool them down as much as possible. It is necessary however to keep the lagging on the exhaust pipes as far as the expansion box. POWER. We attach curves showing the losses in the various silencers. At 2000 revs (60 m.p.h.) the loss to the silencer is :- Silver Ghost 15.6% Present std. EAC. 11.5% 'B' type silencer 14.9% At speeds above 60 m.p.h. one assumes that the cutout would be used.
