Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}1/ET.2.11.40 - 2 - and it is the latter who is responsible for this section on the first 50 guns. Also stops and starts and alterations have been issued directly to B.U.S.M. by Hamy Johnson. It will be seen, therefore, that although Mr. Holmes has a specification for 50 guns to take home in his pocket today, his ambitions re a tidy production programme may be a little hampered, depending upon the source of final authority. (The latter opinion is purely my own). The Design Department do not consider that any drastic alteration should arise from henceforth which could seriously affect production. The answer is, of course, that they do not know, but they reserve the right to let it. The Admiralty of course have also reserved the right to over-ride everybody, without supplying the necessary machinery to carry it into effect. Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/CTS.{C.
