C. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to EB. for info C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BX. COMPRESSION IGNITION. X4483 With regard to the compression ignition programme I like the idea of making a cylinder of improved volumetric efficiency but do not like the side injection with the peculiar shape of piston which it demands. I think we might have something more hopeful. We still think that we shall want a 2 cycle single cylinder unit, but where many cylinders are concerned I am beginning to think that it will only be possible to have one cyl. per crank for C. I. work owing to the connecting rod difficulty, unless the rods can be articulated. We attach herewith SeC. 2983. showing our proposal for improving the exhaust bends on your new cylinder. With regard to the inlet bends I do not like removing the support to the cylinder head between the valves. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
