RE: LUCAS PETROL PUMP SWITCHES.

The switches I took back to Messrs Lucas on Wednesday were definitely faulty, in that the edges of the contact blades had not been properly radiused. Their drawing shows this radius but it had not been done on the job. The first move then is to get all switches inspected and the blades radiused as soon as possible, and we have informed Messrs Lucas that we shall be returning all switches to them for correction. We should be glad if you will make arrangements for the changeover to be carried out as soon as possible in accordance with the decisions made at the conference.

Regarding fundamental modifications to the design, we are testing out in the laboratory immediately a petrol pump switch made correct to their drawing in every detail, and also a switch with the contact plunger made in bronze or hard bearing brass. We hope to give a report on the results of our tests as soon as possible.

At the same time we left with them a drawing of our own design of petrol pump switch, and requested them to cost this up for us with a view to the possibility of them making this switch for us in place of the existing one in the event of the latter still being unsatisfactory after further test.
