R.R. 493A (40 M) (SL 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. 1751 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG4.2.24. Handwritten: 4766 Handwritten below 1751: 766, 3499 BJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RE. WATER BOILING ON 40/50 AND 20 HP. CARS. R6/M10.8.23. Replying to your memo. BJ15/H16.1.24. We reported on the above in our memos. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG5.10.23 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG6.9.23., the conclusions we arrived at after tests and making comparisons between 40/50 HP. and other makes of cars was that the radiator on the 40/50 HP. RR. is small. Since that time we are now fitting to the 40/50 HP. as standard, a radiator in which the matrix is 21.25" deep instead of 20.25". These radiators were standard from 'S' series. This larger radiator will undoubtedly be a definite improvement but we shall still have a small radiator compared with other cars The radiator on the 20 HP. compares very favourably with the radiators on other cars. From tests we have made, we find the only way in which we could improve the 20 HP. would be to fit shutters to the bonnet. These, when open, will increase the cooling efficiency 5 to 6%. We have not heard of many complaints of 20 HP. cars boiling. We should recommend shutters are only fitted on cars for hot or hilly countries. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
