'D' SERIES PHANTOM III With reference to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/N15.6.38, one of the 'D' Series PIII i.e. Chassis.No.3-DL-36 - Mrs Luck which was complained of re "popping in the carburetter" was returned to the Works on Thursday last the 16th inst. We consider we have done sufficient work on this chassis to satisfy ourselves that the popping complained of was due to faulty sparking plugs and not valves sticking. As we kept in close touch with you during our work on this car, there is no need to go into details as to the work we did. The car was returned to London on Friday night and I have received a message this morning from JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} that he continued to run this car in London traffic on Saturday with no recurrence of this trouble. As regards the cooling on this series, we have now passed off test 65 'D' series chassis fitted with the non-hydraulic tappet head and from our records we should say there is little or no difference between the water temperatures recorded on this head, compared with the previous series with the Hydraulic tappets.
