98th Meeting
Dec. 13. 11.
Re Broken Magneto drive on chassis 1130 (Cornelius)
Mr. Wormald submitted a letter dated Dec. 9th concerning this failure, together with the aluminium cover and broken universal pin.
XG30
The Committee considered this matter, and were of the opinion that there were two probable reasons for this failure.
(1) That the magneto had become loose, and had moved from its position.
(2) That the spring drive on the crankshaft had seized, or was otherwise ineffective and had caused the bolts on the magneto coupling to shear.
Mr. Platford was of the latter opinion, because he had had previous experience of failure from this cause, and he now suggested that a man should be sent from the works to inspect the spring drive.
The Committee agreed that this should be done, and he should obtain further information of the breakage. He should first, however, confer with Mr. Platford.
