x6116 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.11/MA. 25th June, 1934. Messrs.Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham, 19. For the attention of Mr.R.N.Neill. Dear Sir, We recently obtained from you a pair of 20/25HP. chassis headlamps which were to have the internal wiring and bulb holder modified to our requirements. Upon examination of this pair of lamps which we understood were to be representative of our future production, we found that the wiring was incorrect inside, the negative of the dipper circuit being taken back to the positive feed of the headlamp bulb. On our suggested scheme you will remember we took the wire from the negative to the dipper and bolted it under the head of one of the earth securing screws holding the dipper mechanism in position. We are altering this pair of headlamps ourselvs but we should be glad if you will ensure that production lamps are made correct in this respect. P.100 Headlamps. We confirm our telephone conversation regarding the failures we have experienced with the above headlamps on our experimental Bentley chassis. We stated that the lamp front continually came undone due to the bottom fixing not being tight enough. Also the spring holding the reflector in position is unsufficient to prevent the reflector oscillating on bad road surfaces. This latter point is rather annoying when driving and we shall be glad if you will look into this question immediately in order to prevent such a recurrence which occurs at extremely high speeds on bad road surface when the shock absorbers are adjusted for high speed conditions. With the lamp dipped the beam remains perfectly steady without any oscillation. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
