Bentley 4 Bearing Crankshaft.

We send you herewith blueprints:-

LeC.4014.
LeC.4015.

In drawing this experimental crankshaft we have come across various points and features which are worthy of mention and which have been dealt with in the design.

The rear main bearing which is larger than the other journals naturally calls for a bigger cap, and in consequence a modified bottom half crankcase in this locality.

Also the oil connection from the gallery to the cap requires to be tilted to clear the cap.

The larger diameter crankshaft flange calls for a new centre disc to the flywheel and rear end oil cover.

The boring in the crankcase for the oil gallery pipe has been made smaller in diameter and moved outwards sufficiently to provide metal between it and the crankshaft throws.

The external webbing on the top half crankcase forces us to use a new main oil supply connection and also a new bracket for the accelerator control shaft. The latter will not be required if this is only a test bed experiment.

In regard to the connecting rods, we show the oil way to the piston pin rifle drilled. Owing to the reduced area of the big-ends the bearings will be made in lead bronze instead of white metal.

The oil filler we expect will be moved. We shall know more about this when the blower drive is settled.
