Contd. -3- condition for drying the pipe, we get practically no explosions. It will be seen from our tests that it is difficult with our present cars to overcome this trouble. The obvious way to tackle it appears to be to try and reduce the amount of liquid petrol in the pipe. The fitting of the hot-spot close up to the carburetter will improve it in this direction. We have actually carried out tests on the road by running the car with a hot-spot applied by means of a blow-lamp and we found with the hot spot in operation that we get no explosions in the Silencer.
